Here's what we got...
A beautiful 2 acre, south facing plot, with mostly deciduous trees. Meaning we get filtered sunlight in summer and direct sun in winter. It has great windows and lets in tons of light.
It has a 2 acre yard for the boy to run around in! We've already promised him a load of gravel. That way we will always have a nicely graveled drive since he will scoop and dump it far and wide.
Here's the said driveway, looking south.
And here's the garage (aka shop for Daddy!) and the east side entrance of the house.
I'm in the entry looking at MY kitchen! Tee hee! That's Dianne (realtor) and the boy with Daddy.
It has radiant heat in the floors!!!! And see all the light?
And here's the reverse view from the kitchen looking at the entry. See above the stove? That's where my new microwave/rangehood will go!!
Here's the dining room and living room. See all the light and windows??? I love it. Except the fact that we sold all our living room furniture...and the china cabinet and bookcase didn't survive the drive out of Yellowknife...
Which is OK, because the boy is already scoping out their possessions...
Master bath. I'm not digging the open shelves but we'll talk about that reno in a couple years...
This is the backyard looking eastward towards the garage. The boy LOVED it. He ran around and around. One the left is the well shed. That's a whole blog post in its own.
For only being 9 years old, it does have some issues. Which we were happy to fix for a discount. They were happy to take that discount and walk away :) (In a roundabout way)
Aren't the trees nice though? They're HUGE! The river is only a 1/2km away, but don't worry, we're up on a hill so unless the river rises 30' we should be good. And if it does, we'll run up the hill behind us. Or climb a tree.
Speaking of the hill, I came up with a thought to tie a rope wayyyyy up the hill. Then attach the kid and let him run up and down as much he could. That should solve any late bedtime issues! Oh ya, and we'll get a dog too, since it is bear country and the boy loves being outside.
Anyways, back to the house. It has 3 bedrooms, though the pics didn't turn out well of those. And they are just bedrooms. The master has an ensuite. In a really dark red with dark wood vanity and storage cabinet. I'll be lightening that space up. Hello Benjamin Moore!
It also has a wood stove in the middle of the house to supplement the radiant floors. Mmmmm...warm floors. Guess where I'll be curled up at????
It does have unfortunate "country" green carpets and tile floors. But carpet is replaceable, in a few years, and Auntie Annie (Interior Designer extraordinaire), can choose paint colours to tone down that green tile!
Do you know what I really, really, really like though?
IT HAS A WASHER AND A DRYER!!!!!!! OK, it will after we replace the flammable dryer ducting with non-flammable ducting.
And there's a whole long counter space opposite the sink that I can use for baking!!!! Oh my KitchenAid will be soooo happy. It'll be the crowning glory of the counter top. Sitting there, gleaming, out in the open for everybody to admire it.
Or not. They'll be oo-ing and aww-ing over my delicious baking.
And another great part??? We now have a 26' "guest cabin", aka the travel trailer that we currently inhabit!!!
Come one, come all. Book your visit dates now as space will soon be filling up. Oh never mind, come all at once, we've the whole yard to house you in!!!
